Hays USD 489 offering free identity theft monitoring after data breach

Hays USD 489 will be sending letters to families affected by a data breach at the district in February.

Families who had personal data affected will be offered one year of identity theft and credit monitoring for free.

Nationally, Seesaw, an education software messaging app, has reported recent hacking issues in which an explicit photo was sent to parents.

Hays USD 489 uses the software.

Shanna Dinkel, assistant superintendent, said Monday on Seesaw is addressing the issue. She said the Hays USD 489 network remains secure, and no USD 489 parents have reported issues.
