HAYS – The TMP-Marian softball team split a home doubleheader Friday against Goodland with the Cowgirls winning a wild game one and the Monarchs rallying for a win in game two.
Game 1: Goodland 21, TMP 17
In the first game of the doubleheader Goodland scored in every inning back one and took advantage of eight TMP errors in a 21-17 win.
Goodland opened the game with their first six hitters reaching base, three of them on errors and they would all comes in to score as part of a six-run first.
In the bottom of the inning the Monarchs countered by second 11 hitters to the plate in a five-run bottom of the first. TMP scored a pair of run on a Jaci VonLintel singe, Karli Komarek drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, a Halle Dreiling single and a wild pitch making it 6-5 Goodland.
Goodland added four runs, with two outs, in the second inning and led 10-5.
Alexa Reyersee’s two-run second inning second pulled TMP back within three at 10-7.
After the Cowgirls scored another run in the top of third to lead 11-7, TMP answered with a four-run bottom of the inning.
Hannah Garcia drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Brooke Koenigsman followed with an RBI single. The with two aboard VonLintel hit her first homerun of the season, a two-run shot to center field tying the game at 11.
Goodland added a single run in the fifth and then came all the way back to take the lead with a five-run sixth. They added four more in the seventh to take a 21-13 lead through six and a half innings.
The Monarchs scored four runs with two outs but the come back came up short in a 21-17 Goodland win.
TMP’s Jaci VonLintel was two-for-four with a home run, four RBI’s and four runs scored. Halle Dreiling and Karlli Komarek also each drovee in three runs.
Madison Augustine went the distance in the circle for TMP and suffered the loss.
Game 2: TMP 13, Goodland 8
The second game starter a lot like the first for TMP. Goodland got a walk, reached on a TMP error and a three-run homerun to open the game. A sacrifice fly gave Goodland a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
TMP’s Brooke Koenigsman drove in the Monarchs only run in the first making it 4-1.
Goodland scored on a TMP error in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Down four TMP scored single runs in each of the third and four innings and then the offense exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning taking a 13-5 lead.
In the inning the Monarchs scored on four wild pitches, three errors, a VonLintel triple, a Jessica Herrman sacrifice fly and a Hannah Garcia RBI single.
Goodland would get two runs back in the six and a run in the seventh but the Monarchs were able to get the 13-8 win.
Jaci VonLintel drove in three runs in the second game. Halle Dreiling and Hannah Garcia each scored three times.
After taking the loss in the first game, Madison Augustin got the win in game two.
TMP is 3-1 and travel to Colby for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
