The 4-22 crosswind runway at Hays Regional Airport was built in 2003 and is showing extensive signs of deterioration, including paving heaving with weather changes, which requires it to be closed at times.

Airport Director Jamie Salter is recommending reconstruction of the runway along with a portion of Taxiway M.

City commissioners will hear her recommendation Thursday of design engineer Lochner, Lenexa, at a cost of $485,300 to be funded from the airport improvement fund. The FAA will pay 90 precent of the total cost with the city picking up the remaining 10 percent.

Commissioners also will consider setting Feb. 22 as the date of a public hearing for the Neighborhood Revitalization Plan expansion.

The Ellis County Commission and Hays USD 489 school board have endorsed the plan, said Jarrod Kuckelman, management analyst.

The Feb. 1 work session begins at 4 p.m. in Hays City Hall, 1507 Main. The complete agenda is available here
