Ellis County Fire Department

On January 20, 2024, at 6:48 p.m., the Ellis County Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 576 350th Ave., just south of Victoria.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were found coming from a single-family dwelling. Fire crews made an interior attack and were able to extinguish the fire. Firefighters used three fire attack lines to extinguish the fire and keep the fire to the building of origin.

Ellis County Fire Chief Lyle Pantle said the fire most likely originated in the attached garage.

The building and other materials inside suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.

The fire was reported out at 7:43 p.m. and under control at 8:21 p.m., at which time some fire crews were starting to be released from the scene.

Midwest Energy was contacted to shut off utilities to the building. Fire crews remained on scene until 12:19 a.m. as fire watch to check for any rekindle.

Thirty-eight firefighters from the Ellis County Fire Department (Hays, Ellis, Victoria, and Munjor) responded to assist. The Hays Fire Department also responded with their air truck, staffed by one firefighter. The ECFD was also assisted by the Ellis County EMS and Sheriff’s deputies.

There were no injuries, Pantle said.
