The Fort Hays State women's soccer team dropped their first match of the season, falling 2-1 to Rockhurst on Monday at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. The loss puts FHSU at 0-1-1 for the season, while RU picked up its first win, moving to 1-1-0.

Rockhurst controlled much of the first half, taking advantage of the wind and firing several shots at Tiger goalkeeper Mackenzie Caldwell. The Hawks broke through in the 34th minute with a goal from Elizabeth Mertzlufft on a breakaway. Rockhurst out shot FHSU 12-2 in the first 45 minutes.

Early in the second half, Jacie Tottleben extended the Hawks' lead with a solo goal, making it 2-0. The Tigers responded with increased pressure, recording five shots in the second half and controlling the tempo. Gracen Chaney scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick to cut the deficit, but it wasn't enough to mount a full comeback. Britney Arneson led the Tigers with two shots, and Caldwell made seven saves.

FHSU now looks to rebound as they head to Sioux Falls, S.D., for matchups against Augustana and Southwest Minnesota State at Morstad Field. The Tigers hold a 1-1-3 record against Augustana, with last year's match ending in a scoreless draw. FHSU is on a five-game winning streak against SMSU and looks to extend that run in non-conference play.
