🏃‍♀️ FHSU's Diercks named MIAA Co-Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State women's cross country junior Emily Diercks has been named MIAA co-Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

In her most recent competition, Diercks placed third in a field of 307 finishers at the sixth running of the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo. on September 27. The transfer completed the six-kilometer trek in 21:24.7, the fastest time among all DII runners in the field.

A native of Hoxie, Kan., Diercks passed nine runners over the final 2,000 meters to finish third, including running her best 1,000m split of 3:24.1 over the final 1K. Fort Hays State, now ranked No. 21 in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll, placed first out of 26 schools with a team total of 40 points.

Diercks was also the top non-DI runner at her first race of the season, posting a time of 17:53.1 at the JK Gold Classic in Wichita, Kan. on September 7.The Tigers will return to the course Friday (Oct. 11) when they travel to Emporia, Kan. for the ESU Invitational. The women's 5K race is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
