Cecil William 'Sandy' Chester

Glade farmer and rancher Cecil William "Sandy" Chester passed away July 4, 2020 at the age of 94.  Born to William and Irma Quanz Chester, April 26, 1926, he lived in the same house he was born in until entering Phillips County Retirement Center in 2005.  Cecil attended Glade Grade School and Phillipsburg High School graduating with the class of 1944 and was proud to play right tackle on the first undefeated football team in 1943.  

Cecil was a life long farmer, rancher and member of the Glade United Methodist Church.  He was a charter member of the Solomon Valley 4-H Club and served as FFA President while in High School.  He was active in the County having been on Township Board, Extension Council, County ASCS Committeeman, Farm Bureau Board and was Fair Superintendent at the 4-H and FFA Fair for several years.  One of the jobs he really enjoyed was being substitute rural mail carrier for 35 years.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maxine Bertram Whitney & Virginia Grubb; brother-in laws John Bertram, Douglass Whitney, Steve Grubb and nephew Bill Bertram.

Survivors include nieces Karen Bertram and Nancy Grubb and nephew John Bertram, close neighbor and friends Bob & Shirley Quanz and family, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Cecil was a kind, caring and gentle man which was evident to the end and was well thought of and respected by the Staff at the Retirement Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating.  Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade.  The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Tuesday & Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center or to Phillips County 4-H.
