⚾ Liles complete game helps Monarchs to split in Abilene

ABILENE - The TMP-Marian baseball team returned to the diamond for the first time in 10 days Friday and split their doubleheader with Abilene. The Monarchs lost the first game 17-2 but came back to win the second contest 7-2.

The Monarchs are now 3-5 on the season. They travel to Great Bend for a doubleheader with the Panthers on Tuesday.

Game 1: Abilene 17, TMP-Marian 2 (4 innings)
The Monarchs struck first with a run in the top of the first but the Cowboys answered with four in the bottom of the inning then scored six in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth for the run-rule win.

Caden Dinkel took the loss allowing 10 runs (3 earned) on six hits with two walks and one strikeout over two innings.

Game 2: Abilene 7, TMP-Marian 2
Freshman Carson Liles held Abilene to two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and four walks and picked up the complete game victory.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the top of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie then added three key insurance runs in the seventh.

TMP used two walks and a Caden Dinkel single to load the bases in the fifth. Kandall Walker broke the tie with a sacrifice fly which scored Joey Mindrup. Ian Nehls followed with a single which scored Dinkel to put the Monarchs up 4-2.

Tregor Williby, Adler Brown and Dinkel drove in runs in the seventh.

Dinkel, Mindrup, Garrett Feauto and Brown all had two hits
