HAYS - Hays High swept Liberal in a pair of games at Hays High School on Thursday evening. The Indians beat the Lady Red on a cool, rainy day 11-0 and 17-2.

Game 1: Hays 11, Liberal 10
Hays scored in every inning but one and needed every one of those runs to win 11-10 in the first game.

Jaylee Summers scored four runs from the top of the lineup and collected three hits. Adalie Kippes also collected three hits and scored two more runs. Each got on base four times.

Lanie Becker, Aly Herl and Shae Augustine hit safely twice. Augustine hit two of the Indians' four doubles. Kippes and Brynlee Brous added the other two.

Each team scored three in the first inning. Hays grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs. Hays fought back to take the lead in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Augustine's second double of the game gave the Indians the lead in the third. Herl provided an run-scoring single to bring hime Lanie Becker for the lead in the fourth. Kippes and Brous each produced run scoring doubles for the two runs in the bottom of the fifth that provided the 11-10 lead Hays clung to rest of the way.

Jaylee Summers worked the first three innings in the circle for Hays. It was Aly Herl though that worked the final four innings and earned the victory. Herl worked the team out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth with back-to-back strikeouts to hold Liberal to just two runs after the first six batters reached in the inning.

Summers allowed two more runs in the fifth before shutting Liberal down in six straight plate appearances over the sixth and seventh inning.

Game 2: Hays 17, Liberal 2 (3 Innings)
The second game held no drama. Hays (10-11, 6-4) scored seven in the first inning, went down in order in the second, and scored ten runs in the third for the 17-2 run-rule victory.

Starting pitcher Avery Raymer worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first to keep Liberal off the scoreboard.

Hays responded by sending 11 to the plate in the bottom of the frame. The first five batters all reached and scored. Jaylee Summers' second trip to the plate in the inning resulted in a two-run triple that gave the Indians a 7-0 lead.

Liberal (6-16, 0-9) used two pitchers to get through the first inning. Their third of the game set Hays down in order in the second.

The Indians figured out the new pitcher in the third sending 11 to plate a second time. The first ten reach and all scored. The lone out of the inning came on a ground ball that scored the game-ending run at 17-2.

The final inning started with a walk, three straight hits, a second walk, two more hits, two errors and one more hit.

Each of the nine players scored in the inning. Lanie Becker scored twice.

Jaylee Summers, Adalie Kippes, Brynlee Rupp, Aly Herl and Shae Augustine each had two hits. Kippes drove in three runs while Rupp, Brous, Raymer, Herl and Augustine drove in two apiece.

Eight different players scored two runs each in the game.

Rupp and Augustine each provided a double. Kippes and Summers added standup triples.

Avery Raymer spent three innings in the circle for the win.

Hays heads to the Andover Central Showdown on Friday and Saturday. They will face the host Jaguars on Friday evening. The Indians play Andover on Saturday morning.
