Helen M. Davis, 92, Hays, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.
She was born August 22, 1930, in Dorrance, the daughter of James L. and Hattie (Sulc) Gustason. On February 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Roy L. Davis in Hays, and they celebrated over 48 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 21, 1996. Helen and Roy built their beautiful home and enjoyed raising their family on the farm, and she proudly lived there for over 60 years. From 1970-2000, she worked for the East Plains DHIA as a dairy tester and during her employment helped form the state supervisor association and served as the treasurer. She was active in her community serving as the Buckeye PTA treasurer, president of the Buckeye Ladies Club, leader for the Buckeye Junior Farmers 4-H Club, and helped at the Ellis County Fair as a superintendent. She enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, dancing, and cherished her family.
Survivors include her son: Randy Davis and wife Mary of Hays, daughter: Ruby Davis (Mark Rowland) of Eden, NY, a brother: Vernon Gustason and wife Coeta of Massachusetts, two grandchildren: Rochelle Werth and Robbie Davis and wife Jill, all of Hays, six great grandchildren: Maryssa McClure, Brady Werth and fiancé Paris Wolf, Rylynn Davis, Reagan Davis, Abbi Rupp, and Leevi Rupp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, three brothers: Ernie, Frank, and Roy Gustason, and a sister: Elsie Briscoe.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until service time on Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
