HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Women's Soccer moved to 2-0 on the season with their second-straight shutout to open 2021. The Tigers knocked off Sioux Falls at FHSU Soccer Stadium, holding the visiting Cougars to just two shots in the match.
The Tigers did all of their offensive damage in the first half on goals by Jordan Thompson and Amanda Rapaduski. Emily Hutchings and Reilly Madden provided assists on both goals. Thompson's occurred in the 37th minute on a pair of through passes from Madden and Hutchings that she put home just in front of the keeper in the box. Just under five minutes later in the 42nd minute, Hutchings and Madden swung a pair of passes around left to where Rapaduski rifled a ball into the upper left corner from about 30 yards out.
The Tiger defense helped keep pressure off of goalkeeper Deonna Wellbrock, who picked up her second straight shutout victory of the weekend. She only needed to make one save to keep the Cougars out of the net. Meanwhile, the Tiger offensive attack countered with 25 shots to the Cougars' two in the match.
Alexis Wemhoff of Sioux Falls allowed the two first half goals to FHSU and then yielded keeper duties to Holli Knudsen the rest of the way. Wemhoff made seven saves and Knudsen added three. FHSU put 13 shots on target in the game.
Next week, the Tigers head to Colorado for a pair of non-conference matches with Colorado Christian and CSU-Pueblo.
