Arleda Mae Short

Arleda Mae Short peacefully entered in the rest Jesus has promised those who love him on April 15, 2021. Arleda was born to Harry Edward and Mildred (Patton) Short on February 26, 1948, in Goodland, Kansas. She was 73 years old. 

She was raised and went to school in Goodland, including the Vo-Tech school. Arleda also attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK for several semesters. 

Arleda enjoyed crocheting doilies and won Reserve Champion at the county fair for one of her creations. She also enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and collectible glassware, including Disney and Warner Bros. Though she never married or had children of her own, Arleda had so much love to give. She worked for many years with Junior High aged girls, teaching Sunday School, working as a sponsor on youth trips and camp, offering guidance, and love to her “girls." She kept in contact with many of them through the years. She also enjoyed singing in the choir at church, attending Denver First Church of the Nazarene during her years in Denver, and recently attended Goodland United Methodist Church. Arleda enjoyed an active social life meeting with friends for coffee and conversation on Friday mornings.

Throughout her career as an administrative assistant, she worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Martin Marietta, CBI, Denver First Church of the Nazarene, and many jobs through a temp service. 

Arleda was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Ray Walkins, twin sister Verneda Short, half-sister Marjory Long, half-brother Darold Short, and her aunts and uncles except Raymond Patton, who followed her shortly after.

She is survived by sister, Susan Short, brother, Harold Short (Jocelyn), stepsister, Dorothy Beckner (Bob), six nieces, two nephews and many cousins. Arleda is also survived by her family “adopted by love,” daughter Karina Plecker, granddaughter Letha Hougland (James), and grandsons Thaddeus Plecker (Mackenzie), Timothy Plecker, Kevin Plecker, and Izaak Plecker, and all her other “girls." She will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at the United Methodist Church in Goodland with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Southern Nazarene University and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
