OAK GROVE, Mo. - Carson Jacobs had four hits including a walk-off, two-run single to lead the Hays Senior Eagles to an 8-7 comeback win over the Raytown (MO) Diamondbacks in the USSSA July Blast Off Tournament title game Sunday afternoon.
Jacobs game-winning single to left scored Brady Kreutzer and Colby Dreiling to cap a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh as the Eagles overcome deficits of 5-0 and 7-3.
Garrett Wellbrock drew a leadoff walk then Jack Fields singled to begin the rally in the Eagles final at-bat. Brady Kreutzer and Colby Dreiling both reached on back-to-back errors by the Raytown shortstop to close the gap to 7-5. Fields scored on a passed ball to make it a one-run game. Brock Lummus walked to load the bases a second time setting up Jacobs' heroics.
Jacobs struggled in the start on the mound, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits but made up for hit at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
Brady Kreutzer pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win.
In the semifinals earlier in the day, Colby Dreiling threw a complete-game three-hitter in a 1-0 win over Venom (MO) Baseball.
The Eagles scored the only run of that game on a throwing error in the bottom of the first inning.
The Eagles finished 4-0 at the USSSA Summer Blast Off and are now 23-2 on the season. They play a doubleheader at Great Bend Wednesday.
