#3 Hays boys remain unbeaten; girls fall in Liberal

Hays took to the road opening the 2021 portion of their season. The Indians longest trip of the year took them to Liberal Friday night.

#10-6A Liberal - Hays

Missed opportunities by the Hays High Lady Indians cost them a shot at upsetting Liberal Friday night. The Indians led four different times in the first quarter by two points and had the ball on three of those occasions. But on each of the possessions Hays failed to build on their advantage trailing 13-10 after the first quarter. 

The Indians eventually trailed by nine at halftime and the deficit down to seven midway through the third quarter at 27-20. Hays missed shots on their next two possessions that would have brought the game within five points and Liberal took advantage by going on a 13-0 through the midway point of the fourth quarter.

Liberal's Aubrey Warden went for 18 points and 14 rebounds in her team's 42-26 victory over Hays. The Newman University signee had double figure rebounds in each of the matchups. 

Highlights

Hays falls to 1-5 and 0-2 in Western Athletic Conference play. Liberal improves to 6-0 and 2-0.

Boys

#3 Hays 72 - Liberal 45

Hays scored on the first possession of the game in Liberal and led wire to wire, opening 2021 with a 72-45 victory. Carson Kieffer drove to the basket scoring ten seconds and Dalyn Schwarz scored on the next possession for a quick 4-0 lead. The Redskins got within two just one time at 4-2 and never got any closer.

The Indians lead ballooned to double figures by early in the second quarter on an 18-10 run. Hays led 34-18 at halftime and was never threatened in the second half.

Hays came into the game shooting 54% and topped that with a 64% shooting night winning 72-45

Dalyn Schwarz scored a game high 13. Jordan Dale added a season high 12 and Carson Kieffer put in 11. 

Highlights

Hays improves to 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in the WAC. Liberal drops to 2-4 and 0-2.

Hays is back on the road next Tuesday in Great Bend.
