Velma Marie Carver

Velma Marie Carver, 90, Liebenthal, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Velma was born July 5, 1931, in Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Reinhold A. And Emma (Wolf) Herrman. 

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar Society, both of Liebenthal, and the VFW Auxiliary, La Crosse, Kansas.

On April 2, 1951, she married Raymond E. Carver at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal.  He preceded her in death February 19, 2010.

Being married to a 20 year United States Navy veteran, Velma, Raymond and their family lived in California, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, and Illinois before making Rush County, Kansas, their “forever home."

Survivors include:  one daughter, Vel Rae “Sis” Starkey, Liebenthal, Kansas; three sons, Rick Carver (Midge), Superior, Colorado, Patrick Carver (Patty), Liebenthal, Kansas, Scot Carver (Virginia), Colby, Kansas; 24 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one brother, Ron “Ronnie” Herrman (Theresa), Austin, Texas; and two sisters, Marilyn Randa (Harold), Manhattan, Kansas, and Karen Jarmer, Bay City, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Paula Hayes; one son, Douglas Carver; one granddaughter, Audrey Carver; and three brothers, Leroy Herrman, Vernon Herrman, and James “Artie” Herrman.

Church visitation will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.  A rosary will be at 9:15 A.M. 

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating.  Inurnment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Vel Rae Starkey to assist with expenses, or St. Joseph’s Heritage Fund, Liebenthal, Kansas.
