
Carl LeRoy Stoppel, 63, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
LeRoy was born on August 12, 1961, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Carl Alvin and Pearl Mae (Bushell) Stoppel. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1980. He worked in the oilfield industry as a Roustabout working for the last several years with Scheck Oil Company in Russell. He enjoyed riding his side by side motorcycle, shooting guns and sitting next to a fire pit drinking beer with his close friends. LeRoy was never married but found love the last year of his life with Sarah Waechter who helped care and love LeRoy while he battled his cancer diagnosis. One of his greatest treasurers in life was being part of the R Club. Having one final reunion with his “brothers” brought him so much pride and joy.
Surviving family includes his sister Patricia M. Demel of Kansas City, Missouri and significant other and girlfriend Sarah Waechter of Russell, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ernest A. “Sonny” Stoppel, niece Melissa Demel and brother in-law Ray Demel.
LeRoy selected a cremation service, and a celebration of LeRoy’s life will be held at 10 A.M on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.
Family will greet guest the day of the service from 9 A.M. to service time. Burial will follow at the Wilson City Cemetery in Wilson, Kansas. Memorials may be given to BFAC (Bras Fore A Cause) to help others in the community battle cancer or the R Club and can be sent to the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
