Hays, surrounding area upgraded to blizzard warning

Hays and Ellis County, along with several surrounding counties, have been upgraded to a blizzard warning.

The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service is now forecasting up to 6 inches of snow in the Ellis County area.

Rain is likely after 5 p.m., changing to snow as the evening progresses, and couples with sustained winds of 31 to 36 mph. Gusts up to 50 mph are possible. The NWS is warning of hazardous driving conditions.

Snow is expected to taper off by early Friday morning. There will be a high of 47 on Friday, followed by a higher of 63 Saturday and 70 Sunday before another chance of precipitation Monday.
