ELLIS COUNTY —A Kansas man died in an accident just before 10:30a.m. Sunday in Ellis County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 GMC Sierra driven by Martin E. Velazquez Cruz, 20, Kansas City, MO., was southbound on U.S. 183 at Butterfield Trail.
The driver attempted to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with a northbound 2007 Mercury Milan driven by James D. Kohl, 56, Schoenchen.
Kohl was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Brocks Funeral Home. EMS transported Cruz to KU Medical Center. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
