ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Fort Hays State Men's Soccer defeated Ouachita Baptist by a score of 3-1 on Thursday in the first match of a pair in Arkansas this week. The Tigers reeled off a new school record 41 shots in the match, which passed the old mark of 36 set at Southern Nazarene back in 2016.

Fort Hays State dominated the first half, outshooting Ouachita Baptist 16-1, with six shots on target. The Tigers broke through early when Marcos German delivered a perfect cross into the box finding Harrison Bensouda, who put the finishing touch on the ball. Despite FHSU's control, OBU made the most of their lone opportunity, equalizing when Alexis Murillo's corner kick bent past Wouter Van der Borch into the net.

Fort Hays State's offensive efforts didn't let up, putting up 25 shots in the second half (eight on goal). FHSU took the lead back after a failed clearance by OBU resulted in an own goal. FHSU added on an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Mario Leal Vales slipped a pass to Jeremiah Johnson, who buried a left-footed shot for his first goal at FHSU.

Fort Hays State moved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-2 in GAC play. Ouachita moved to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4 in the GAC. Fabian Gylden Svensson, Johnson and German led the Fort Hays State offense with five shots each. Bensouda recorded his second goal of the season. FHSU held OBU to just five shots and Van der Borch made one save. OBU goalkeeper Dillon Staal made 12 saves.
