HAYS - Boulder starter Zach Given used a heavy dose of breaking balls to hold the Hays Larks in check for seven innings Thursday night, but the Larks finally broke through, scoring four runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-3 victory.
A leadoff error opened the door for the Larks (10-4) who stung together four straight hits with two outs in the eighth.
Grant Lung's towering three-run homer to right tied the game, then after a Wyatt Divis double, Corbin Truslow singled to center to drive in the go-ahead run.
Closer Jacob Ensz made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Back-to-back walks put the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Following a sacrifice bunt and strikeout and intentional walk which loaded the bases, Ensz struck out Cade Nelson to end the game.
Brady Rose pitched three innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and picked up the win.
Lung and Leo Jiminian both had two hits.
The Larks have now won a season-best four straight games. They go for the series sweep Friday at 7 p.m.
