TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Fort Hays State baseball team fell in the rubber match against Northeastern State 12-0 on Saturday. The Tigers struggled to find on offensive rhythm while the RiverHawks scored at least one run in every frame. FHSU falls to 16-24 overall and 6-17 in the MIAA while NSU improves to 16-19 overall and 10-13 in conference action.
Cade Flaherty started the game on the mound for the Tigers. NSU hit a solo home run with two outs in the first inning to take the lead before blowing the game open in the second. The RiverHawks scored six runs on six hits and an error by the Tigers to take a 7-0 lead. Spencer Maley took over on the mound recording two of the three outs while allowing one run.
The RiverHawks added another run in the third, two in the fourth, and one more in the fifth and sixth innings to claim the run-rule victory. The Tigers managed to get a runner on base several times, but were unable to piece together a rally.
Flaherty (2-3) allowed six runs on seven hits over 1.1 innings pitched collecting a pair of strikeouts. Andrew Hansen took over in the third allowing two runs over two frames.
Elliott Herrmann and Mikey Felton each managed a base hit in the contest.
The Tigers will return to Larks Park on Tuesday to host Newman in the final game of their season midweek series. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
