RUSSELL – The TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U had a couple of thrilling comeback wins over Russell Wednesday night to close out their season. The Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie game one then plated five in the top of the seventh for a 9-4 win. They scored five runs with two outs in the seventh inning of game two to win it 6-2.
Trailing 2-1, the Monarchs opened the seventh with a single from Bryce Connor and a Griffin Schumacher walk. Schumacher later scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Ethan Atherton’s base hit gave TMP the lead. After Jace Wentling scored on a wild pitch, D Werth reached on an error which allowed two more runs to cross the plate.
Mark Rack scattered six hits in the complete game victory, striking out four and walking one.
Jace Wentling had two of the Monarchs six hits and had the team’s only RBI.
Wentling drove in four in the first game. His double scored two runs to pull the Monarchs within a run in the sixth. He then scored the tying run on a Noah Gibson groundout.
Bryce Connor’s single scored two runs to break the 4-4 tie in the seventh and gave the Monarchs the lead for good.
Mason Robbins allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits for the complete game win. Robbins struck out seven and walked none.
TMP-Marian ends their season on a six-game win streak.
