🥎 Monarchs beat Colby to advance in 3A regional

HAYS – This past Thursday, Colby swept the TMP-Marian softball team in a doubleheader in Colby. The Monarchs (12-9) turned the tables in their 3A regional opener Monday, beating the Eagles 8-5 at TMP. The Monarchs scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to break a 2-2 tie then held on the rest of the way.

Hannah Garcia, who went 3-for-4, broke the 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the decisive frame. Garcia would later score on a passed ball to push the lead to 5-2. Brooke Koeningsman scored on a wild pitch then Alexa Ryersee hit a two-run homer to cap the inning.

Colby scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but Madison Augustine got strikeout with a runner on to end the game. Augustine allowed one earned run on eight this with six strikeouts and three walks and picked up the complete game win.

Garcia had three of the Monarchs seven hits.

The Monarchs will host Beloit in the second semifinal tomorrow around 5 o’clock. The Trojans blanked Larned 11-0. Hoisington/Central Plains and Russell/Victoria were the winners in the top half of the bracket. The Cardinals beat Plainville/Stockton 16-0.
