The Kansas Drought Monitor shows some easing of drought in Ellis County with recent rains.

The drought monitor, which was released today, accounts for rainfall through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Hays has received 3.4 inches of rain in August and 17.30 inches of precipitation year to date, which is approaching the average precipitation total as of the end of August of 17.70 inches.

The forecast calls for a 10% chance of thunderstorms tonight for Ellis County. 

There's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7 and 9 a.m. Friday and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Friday night.

Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be clear with highs of 91. A chance of thunderstorms returns Sunday night, Monday night and Tuesday night, with clear skies during the day.
