The Fort Hays State baseball team will play their final home series of the season this weekend (April 21-23) as they host Northwest Missouri State for a three-game conference series. This weekend will also serve as Pack the Park weekend for FHSU Baseball with Curt Pfannenstiel Day/Senior Day taking place on Sunday. Friday's contest will take place at 6 p.m. and the final two games of the series are slated to begin at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will begin about 30 minutes prior to first pitch on Sunday.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for students K-12 for the game on Friday evening. FHSU students get in FREE with a valid Tiger Card. All-sport season ticket holders will also get in free of charge. The Saturday and Sunday games will be FREE admission for everyone.
The Tigers started out strong last weekend with a 15-2 win over Missouri Western in the series opener, but they came out on the losing end of two close contests falling 5-4 in game two and 6-5 in the ten-inning rubber match. FHSU leads all of DII with 51 sacrifice bunts. The Tigers are tied for the third-most triples in the MIAA (15) while ranking sixth in runs scored (308), RBI (271), walks drawn (201), and on base percentage (.404).
Isaiah Ural continues to lead the team with a .350 batting average followed by Ed Scott with a .346 average. Scott leads the squad with 56 hits, 14 doubles, and 32 walks drawn. Scott and Ural also have the two best on base percentages, .470 and .458 respectively. Elliott Herrmann has driven in a team-best 47 runs while Trey DeGarmo has crossed the plate a team-high 44 times. Despite dealing with an injury in the middle of the season, Emile Boies leads the team with nine home runs and a slugging percentage of .586.
The Tiger starting rotation has had some solid games on the mound as of late. Jake Campbell has posted a 3-0 record as a starter with a 4.89 ERA, the lowest of Tiger starters. Daniel Bebee recorded his third complete game of the season in the 4-2 win over Newman last Tuesday which was followed by a complete game from Zach Berg in the series opening win against Missouri Western where he allowed only two runs over seven innings. Cade Flaherty overtook the team lead in strikeouts (43) with a seven punchout performance in Sunday's series finale. Boies made his first appearance on the mound since March 14 against the Griffons tossing a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Fort Hays State trails the all-time series with Northwest Missouri State 37-26 after dropping a three-game series to the Bearcats in Maryville last season. The Tigers swept the Bearcats in their last series at Larks Park back in 2021.
The Bearcats fell one game short of a sweep of Central Oklahoma in their last conference series before falling to William Jewell in a midweek contest. Cole Slibowski leads NWMSU at the plate batting .344 with seven doubles and a home run. Alex Slocum has made 11 starts on the mound for the Bearcats posting a 4.55 ERA over 61.1 innings of work.
