FHSU alum named chief medical officer by Dallas health system

DALLAS — Joseph Parra, MD, has joined Medical City Healthcare as division chief medical officer.

As CMO, Dr. Parra provides senior clinical direction and leads the continuous effort to improve patient care and quality within the Medical City Healthcare network. He will collaborate with physicians, clinicians, colleagues and leadership to ensure the successful implementation of the division’s multi-faceted patient and colleague safety initiatives.

“Providing the highest level of quality, compassionate care is our top priority,” says Erol Akdamar, FACHE, president of Medical City Healthcare. “Dr. Parra’s experience in clinical staff leadership, clinical research, strategic planning and operational collaboration across a complex array of medical disciplines will help support our division as the destination of choice for healthcare excellence across North Texas.”

Prior to this role, Dr. Parra served as CMO at HCA Healthcare’s North Florida Regional Medical Center since 2019. Under his leadership, operational improvements and attention to clinical excellence resulted in increased quality scores and physician satisfaction. As the clinical leader throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he anticipated trends and implemented guidance from HCA Healthcare and the CDC. Previously, he served as CMO of Orange Park Medical Center for four years, achieving Level II Trauma status and starting a graduate medical education program, among other initiatives.

A hospitalist by training, Dr. Parra holds multiple medical board appointments and is involved in several philanthropic organizations, including PACE for at-risk youth, the American Cancer Society and mission trips through Medical Ministry International. He earned a Master in Business Administration from Fort Hays State University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas.
