TOPEKA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams opened competition at the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships on Friday with the women's pentathlon and the first half of the men's heptathlon. Taylor Savolt leads the Tigers In the pentathlon, finishing fourth, achieving a personal best and improving her provisional.
Savolt exhibited her versatility and strength across the board, posting impressive stats in each event. From the 60m hurdles to the long jump and the 800m run, Savolt's consistency and dedication were evident, earning her a total of 3769 points. Following closely behind, Maggie Remsberg secured an exceptional sixth place finish, demonstrating her grit and determination throughout the competition. Remsberg's solid performance in events such as the high jump and 800m run contributed to her total of 3424 points, improving her provisional and achieving a personal best. This mark in the pentathlon climbs her to fifth in school history.
Hadley Williams battled fiercely, securing the 11th spot with a display of tenacity and determination. Despite facing tough competition, Williams showcased her strength in events like the 60m hurdles and long jump, finishing with a total of 2959 points. Ellie Dusselier and Kylin Rudzik also put forth commendable efforts, finishing 12th and 14th. Dusselier's performance in the high jump and 800m run, along with Rudzik's marks in the shot put and hurdles, contributed to the Tigers' overall strong showing.
In the men's heptathlon, Ethan Salmans and Jade Cass represented the Tigers with skill and determination. Salmans posted impressive marks in events such as the 60m dash and long jump. Jade Cass left a lasting impression with his exceptional performance, securing a first-place finish in the men's heptathlon high jump. Salmans will go into Saturday in seventh and Cass in 11th.
The Tiger women currently sit in third place with 8 points after one event scored. The rest of the multi events are set to begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the the rest of the team joins in beginning at 2 p.m.
