UNION CITY, Okla. – The HBC Hammer 18u, formally the Hays Eagles Senior American Legion, lost their fifth-place game 13-3 in five innings to MVP 17u out of Norman, Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at the Perfect Game Oklahoma Championships.
The Hammer (21-11) took the early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, but MVP answered with four in the bottom of the first then added two in the second, three in the third and four on a grand slam in the fifth which ended the game by run-rule.
Starter Tyson Jimenez (4-1) only lasted one inning, allowing four runs on six hits and suffered the loss.
Garrett Wellbrock and Bradyn Dreher each had two of Hays’ six hits and both drove in a run.
The 15u and 16u Hammer teams were both off this weekend. The 15u hosts the 14u Hays Hammer travel team in a single nine-inning game at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Hays High School. The 16u Hammer play a doubleheader in Great Bend Tuesday. All three Hammer teams close out their seasons at the High Elite Series at the Genesis Sports Complex in Goddard this weekend.
