Hays boys win; girls lose in Day 2 of Shootout

Day two of the round robin Hays City Shootout opened with TMP and Hugoton take the floor in the first two games. #6-3A Hugoton girls beat TMP 51-33 to move to 2-0 on the year. TMP dropped to 1-1. The TMP boys moved to 2-0 with a 62-59 win over Hugoton. Hugoton fell to 0-2.

Girls

Life Prep 46 - Hays 30

Hays High was outscored 19-3 in the fourth quarter after heading into the final frame tied at 27 with Life Prep Academy on Friday night. The Indians turned the ball over on five of their first six possessions of in the game and fell behind 9-0. 

Highlights

Once Hays found their offense they went on a 16-2 run deep into the second quarter and led 23-19 at halftime. The Indians advantage reached a peak of seven at 23-16. However Hays would not score for the next 9:10. Life Prep during that timeframe went on a 11-0 run of their own to grab a four point lead before the fourth quarter.

The two teams combined for 75 turnovers. Hays ended the game with 39 and Life Prep 36. Hays falls to 0-2 on the year. Life Prep is now 2-1.

Boys

Hays 71 - Life Prep 39

Hays led wire to wire in their second game of the year moving to 2-0 at the Hays City Shootout beating Life Prep Academy 71-39. The Indians used runs of 15-3, 13-0 and 17-0 in their victory. 

The game was never closer than 6-5 just over midway through the first quarter. It was at that point that the Indians started the 15-3 run for a 21-8 advantage. The game was a single digit affair only one more time at 23-15. 

Highlights

Hays shot 52% for the game backing up their 53% on Thursday night. The Indians made seven of their twelve three pointers. Jace Linenberger and Carson Kieffer each scored 16 to lead the way. Ten players scored in the game for Hays High who moves to 2-0 on the year. Life Prep Academy falls to 1-2 on the year and 0-2 in the tourney.
