McPHERSON – The Hays High boys golf team opened their season with a sixth-place finish at the McPherson Invitational at the Turkey Creek Golf Course Thursday. Ashton Hernandez led the Indians with a 93 and tied for 19th place. Blake Buckles shot a 94 and finished 22nd.
The Indians shot a 388. Sacred Heart out of Salina won the team title with a 325. The Knights finished seven shots ahead of the host Bullpups and 27 shots better than third place Derby.
The Indians return to action next Thursday at Newton.
