馃 Monarchs pick up sweep on senior day

HAYS 鈥擳he TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team honored its lone senior Monday night with a doubleheader sweep of the Sacred Heart Knights in their final home games of the regular season.

Game 1: TMP 16, Sacred Heart 1 (4 innings)
TMP sophomore Brynn Schoepf recorded a career-high five RBIs, and Brynn Rebel allowed just two hits in four innings as the Monarchs picked up a 16-1 win in four innings.

TMP scored in every inning and outhit the Knights 13-2.

Rebel doubled with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, and two batters later she scored on a single by Bria Windholz.

TMP鈥檚 only senior, Addison Watson, started her senior day nicely with a two-run double to put TMP up 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, Schoepf connected on her first of two doubles, scoring two and putting TMP up 5-0.

Two hitters later, Paige Koenigsman singled home a run to make it 6-0.

The Monarchs added a seventh run on an error and led 7-0 after two innings.

The Knights threatened in the top of the third thanks to a pair of TMP errors, but Rebel struck out the final hitter of the inning to keep it 7-0.

TMP opened the bottom of the third with a hit batter and back-to-back singles. The second hit, a Molly Helget single, made it 9-0.

A run scored on an error to make it 10-0, and Rebel added an RBI groundout for an 11-0 lead.

In the fourth, TMP loaded the bases with no outs and scored five straight runs.

Hannah Rose was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Schoepf doubled home two runs, and Rebel doubled in two more as the Monarchs secured a 16-1 victory.

Schoepf finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs. Piper Simpson went 3 for 3 and scored three times.

Rebel earned the win (10-1), allowing two hits in four innings.

Game 2: TMP 19, Sacred Heart 2 (3 innings)
Brynn Rebel recorded her first career two-home run game, and the Monarchs scored 15 runs in the second inning in a 19-2 run-rule victory.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning for Sacred Heart, TMP鈥檚 first two hitters reached base in the bottom half, and Rebel hit a three-run home run to left field to make it 3-0.

The Monarchs added a fourth run on a wild pitch and led 4-0 after one inning.

Sacred Heart cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the second, but TMP responded in a big way.

The Monarchs sent 20 batters to the plate in a 15-run second inning.

TMP scored on a wild pitch, an error, a two-run double by Addi Gottschalk, a Schoepf single, and Rebel鈥檚 second home run of the game to take a 13-2 lead.

The offense continued as Katie Herrman stole home to make it 16-2.

TMP added another run on an error, and a Brynlee Gerber double made it 19-2.

Rebel finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Bria Windholz earned the win (10-0), allowing two runs on four hits.

TMP will travel to Plainville on Tuesday and is now 21-1 on the season.
