A public hearing for the rezoning request of a portion of property at 3124 E. 27th Street from neighborhood conservation district to light industrial district will be held Monday, Sept. 21 during the Hays Area Planning Commission meeting.
Property owner Rita Gottschalk wants to rezone the property to be consistent for uses within the comprehensive plan. The property is located outside the Hays city limits, but it is within the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).

A second public hearing will be for a request to vacate a utility easement within the GSL Addition Replat at 3300 Vine Street.
The property was originally platted in 1982 and Walmart was constructed in 1984. In 1991, an addition was constructed on the north side of the building in the area formerly occupied by the alley. At that time, the city vacated the alley but retained the utility easement.
The current property owners are requesting the remaining easement be vacated to eliminate an unnecessary encumbrance on the property title.
Kansas law requires a public hearing prior to the vacation of a platted easement.
The planning commission meeting begins at 4 p.m. Monday in Hays City Hall, 1507 Main.
