Frances Alberta (Richter) William, 94, of Hoxie, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021.

She was the eldest child of Paul Richter and Julia (Schlicher) Richter. Frances was born on July 20, 1926 in rural Sheridan County. After graduating from Sheridan County High School in 1944, she attended Stewarts Cosmetology School in Salina.

Upon completing her degree, she returned to Hoxie and married Ronald L. William on April 22, 1946. Frances owned and operated a beautician business in Hoxie for several years and also worked at Cooper Dry Goods in the 1960s. From 1971 until her retirement in 1994, Frances was the district secretary of the local Soil Conservation Service.

Frances will be remembered as a very creative individual and one never to be idle. Her hobbies included golfing, painting and she was a dedicated letter and e-mail writer to family and friends.

She may best be known for crafting hundreds, if not thousands, of delicious wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes over 50 years until her second retirement in 2006. Frances was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church her entire life and let faith in Christ lead her throughout.

She was preceded in death by son Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” William, killed in action on March 21, 1970 in South Vietnam, and her husband, Ronald on Dec. 6, 2012.

She is survived by: her sons, Larry A. William and wife Susan of Topeka and Victor P. William and wife Lila of Overland Park; her three grandchildren, Scott William and wife Laura; Alison Thomas and husband Matt; Paul William and wife Jackie; and her five great-grandchildren, Sydni William, Zoe William, Margo Thomas, Henry William and Felix William; and her siblings, Marvin Richter and wife Nancy; Herschel Richter, and Sidona Obermueller.

A funeral service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment to follow the service in the Hoxie City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 7 at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.
