Two local school district superintendents say they are unaware of any effects on their districts due to a nationwide data breach of the school software provider, PowerSchool.

The alleged attack happened between Dec. 19 and Dec. 28. PowerSchool made the hack public last week.

Hays USD 489 Superintendent Ron Wilson said district officials were unsure if the breach included local student data as of last week. He said district staff members were working to confirm student data remained secure.

Steve Herrman, technology director for Ellis USD 388, said the breach did not affect the school district.

"All USD 388 network security was checked and verified to be working correctly and not compromised," he said via email.

He added, "USD 388 received no notification of any breach of USD 388 student or staff data from PowerSchool. USD 388 student and staff data has remained secure and isolated from the breach of PowerSchool's IT infrastructure."
