HAYS – Elle Dreiling singled to center field which scored Dezarae Schmidt in the bottom of the eighth and lifted the Hays High softball team to an 11-10 win over Great Bend Tuesday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex. Dreiling’s game-winning single came two batters after Ashlyn Zimmer scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
The Indians (3-3, 3-1 WAC) built a 9-3 lead after four innings, but the Panthers (0-9, 0-6 WAC) rallied with two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh, then took the lead with a run in the top of the eighth.
Dreiling also tripled and drove in three runs.
Aubree Thomas picked up the complete game victory allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
The two teams face each other Thursday in a doubleheader at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
