⚾ Top-ranked Monarchs cruise to a pair of wins over Plainville

PLAINVILLE – TMP-Marian erupted for 53 runs in just eight innings Tuesday, sweeping Plainville 23-3 and 30-3. The Monarchs, the top-ranked team in Class 2-1A, improved to 12-0 on the season.

TMP-Marian returns home to host Clay Center in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.

The Monarchs wasted little time, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. Grant Nehls doubled to drive in two runs, Jacob Seib followed with a three-run single, and Ian Nehls drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the early scoring.

TMP added four more runs in the second to stretch the lead to 10-1. Caden Dinkel worked another bases-loaded walk, and Ty Schmeidler crushed a three-run home run to center field.

The Monarchs continued to pile on, scoring two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and eight more in the fifth inning on just three hits. Grant Nehls singled in a run, Isaac Purinton doubled in two, and Camden Ford, Levi Beall, and Alec Gerstner each drew bases-loaded walks. Two additional runs scored on a wild pitch.

Logan Baalmann started on the mound for TMP, allowing two runs on no hits while walking five and striking out five in 1 2/3 innings.

Grant Nehls finished with four of the Monarchs’ 13 hits and, along with Purinton and Schmeidler, drove in three runs apiece. TMP-Marian also drew 14 walks.

TMP-Marian picked up right where it left off in the nightcap, scoring eight runs in the first inning and erupting for 17 more in the second.

Jacob Seib highlighted the second inning with a grand slam, while Caden Dinkel, Grant Nehls and Logan Baalmann each added two-run home runs as the Monarchs sent 20 batters to the plate.

TMP added five more runs on two hits in the third inning to end the game by run rule.

Caden Dinkel earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, striking out four and walking two. Ian Nehls pitched one inning of relief, giving up three runs on five hits.

TMP collected 15 hits in the game. Connor Breit, Baalmann, Easton Werth, Kenneth Walker and Carson Liles each had two hits. Seib and Dinkel drove in four runs apiece, while Ian Nehls accounted for three of the Monarchs’ nine walks.
