TMP splits doubleheader with Hoisington

HAYS – The TMP Monarchs split a home doubleheader with Hoisington Tuesday at TMP Field. In the first game Mason Robbins gave the Monarchs with walk-off victory 5-4. In game two Hoisington scored three runs in the top of the sixth on their way to a 6-5 win.

Game 1: TMP 5, Hoisington 4
Hoisington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning before the Monarchs answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The first three hitters of the inning reached base on singles before a one-out error put the Monarchs up 2-1. Tyson Dinkel added a sacrifice fly to put TMP up 3-1.

Hoisington got two runs back in the fifth tying the game at three.

TMP added a run in the bottom of the fifth and Hoisington tied the game at four with a run in the sixth innings.

Into the bottom of the seventh Mark Rack led off the inning with a walk, stole second and then moved to third on a groundout ahead of Mason Robbins who singled to center lifting TMP to the 5-4 walk-off win.

Rack allowed three unearned runs in four innings of relief. He struck out three and earned the win. Jace Wentling collected a pair of hits and scored a run.

Game 2: Hoisington 6, TMP 5
In game two Hoisington jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead only to see the Monarchs get three runs back in the bottom of the inning.

TMP tied the game on an RBI groundout by Jace Wentling. Mason Robbins gave TMP the lead with an RBI single and Ethan Atherton followed with an RBI double to put TMP up 3-1.

The Monarchs added another run on a passed ball and led 4-1 heading into the fourth inning. Hoisington got a pair of runs in the inning to cut the TMP lead to 4-3.

After another TMP run crossed the plate they led 5-3 through five innings but Hoisington scored three runs in the top of the six to take a 6-5 lead.

Nick Herrman suffered the loss for TMP. He can in relief in the sixth inning and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out three in an inning and a third.

Tyson Dinkel was three-for-four and scored twice.

TMP is 11-8 and will travel to Ellinwood tomorrow.
