KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Katie Wagner of the Fort Hays State women's basketball team received MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors on Monday for her efforts in a pair of Tiger wins at home last week.
Wagner averaged a double-double for the week in wins at home over Newman and Central Oklahoma. She averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, helping the Tigers defeat the Jets by 19 and the Bronchos by 12. She shot 66.7 percent from the field overall.
Wagner scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds against Newman before totaling 24 points and 13 rebounds against Central Oklahoma for her 10th double-double of the year. The Maize, Kan. native dished out six assists in each game and totaled four steals for the week.Both Wagner and Olivia Hollenbeck had a big week for the Tigers inside. Hollenbeck complemented Wagner's week with an average of 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over the two games. Hollenbeck had a career-high 30 points in the win over Newman.
This is the second time this season Wagner has received MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors. She was selected for the award back on November 15 following the first weekend of play this season. The Tigers continue conference play this week at Lincoln (Thur. Feb. 15) and Central Missouri (Sat. Feb. 17).
