⚾ Larks win series opener with Fort Collins

HAYS – Dylan Dreiling had four hits, Garrett Gruell and Austen Jaslove both drove in three runs to lead the Hays Larks to a 10-4 win over the Fort Collins Foxes in game one of their three-game series at Larks Park.

Jaslove drove in the Larks first run with a second inning single. He pushed their lead to 6-1 with a two-run double in the fifth. Gruell had a sacrifice fly which scored a run in the third then drove in two with a double in the Larks four-run sixth.

Palmer Hutchison drove in the first two runs in the sixth with a two-run double.

Starter Cam Brown (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts and now walks and picked up his first win of the summer. Sam Hendon allowed on run on tow hits in two innings of relief. Brady Rose allowed two earned runs on no hits with seven strikeouts while walking four in three innings of relief and gets the save.

KEEPING PACE

The Larks remain a 1 1/2 games behind Liberal in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League standings. The Bee Jays beat the Gameday Angels 9-5 Thursday and have won 14-straight. Liberal’s last loss was to the Larks on June 23rd. The two will play twice in Hays next week.

STAYING HOT

Dreiling finished with two triples and scored three runs and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. The Tennessee signee has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games and is second on the team with a .425 batting average.

UP NEXT

The Larks and Foxes continue their three-game series Friday. Admission is free courtesy of the Platinum Group, Jimmy John’s and Hays Chevrolet. Friday and Saturday’s start times have been pushed back half-hour to 7:30 p.m. due to the expected high temperatures.
