๐Ÿˆ Hays defense dominant in WAC title win

GARDEN CITY - Hays High jumped out a three touchdown lead on Friday night in Garden City by scoring on three of their first drives. The Indians scored on an 8 play 91 yard drive, 1 play 40 yard drive and 12 play 59 yard drive to take the 21-0 lead with 7:28 left in the second quarter.

Hays forced a three and out on the next defensive series but could not take advantage of a short field. The Indians picked up a dead ball fifteen yard penalty setting up 4th and 23. The punt snap sailed high resulting in Garden City taking over at the Indian 30 yard line. 

The Buffaloes had just one yard of offense prior to that drive. They scored from the thirty on just three plays closing the gap down to 21-7 at halftime.

Highlights

The Indians defense dominance continued through out the second half. Garden City moved the ball into Hays territory but was stopped on a sack on fourth down after 14 plays and 5:50 came off the clock. 

Garden City never threatened to score again. Hays pushed the score ahead one more touchdown on a fourth quarter run with 8:34 remaining for a 28-7 lead. 

Dylan Dreiling and Jordan Dale each ran for two scores. The Hays High defense allowed just 50 yards of offense, 3o of which came on the Buffaloes lone scoring drive.

Hays wins a minimum share of the WAC title at 3-0 and is 4-0 overall. Garden City falls to 1-3 and 1-1 in the conference.

The Indians right now do not have a game schedule next Friday as Abilene had to cancel due to COVID. The next scheduled game for Hays High is at home against Dodge City in two week. The Indians are searching for an opponent next week.
