⚾ Monarchs use big innings in doubleheader sweep at Russell

RUSSELL – The TMP baseball team combined to score 35 total runs in a doubleheader sweep of Russell on the road Friday as they remain unbeaten in the MCL.

GAME 1: TMP-Marian 19, Russell 2
In the first game of the doubleheader the Monarchs scored all 19 of their runs in just three innings.

The opened the game with a seven-run first.

Carson Liles got his career day started with an RBI double in the first inning putting TMP up 1-0. Logan Baalman followed with his second homerun of the season as the Monarchs took a 3-0 lead.

Later in the inning the Monarchs scored on a Kendall Walker RBI groundout, a wild pitch and Joey Mindrup double for a 7-0 lead through one-half inning.

Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fourth when Ty Schmeilder doubled home a pair of runs putting TMP up 9-0.

Three batters later Joey Mindrup drove in a run with an RBI single and then Baxton Basgall plated two more, putting TMP up 12-0, with a two-run single.

After Russell got a run back in the bottom of the fourth TMP struck for seven more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Back-to-back walks opened the inning and then with one out Schmeidler drove in a run on a single to center. The Monarchs then scored on a balk, a pair of bases loaded walks, a sacrifice fly by Basgall and a wild pitch as the Monarchs go on to win game one 19-2.

Schmeilder drove in three runs and he, Adler Brown and Baalman each collected a pair of hits. Schmeidler and Brown scored three times each.

Baalman earned the win for TMP. He allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in four innings.

GAME 2: TMP-Marian 16, Russell 3
The Monarchs offense picked up right where it left off in game two.

TMP scored five runs in three innings in a 16-3 win.

Carson Liles tripled in a pair of runs to open the TMP scoring. Logan Baalman followed with a triple of his own making it 3-0 TMP. They also scored on a balk and wild pitch in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

With one out in the second and after back-to-back walks Lines single in a run for a 6-0 lead. Schmeidler then doubled in two for an 8-0 TMP lead. The Monarchs also scored on an Adler Brown RBI groundout and a Kendal Walker triple.

Russell cut TMP’s lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the second but the Monarchs got a run back in the top of the third on a Liles RBI single.

In the fifth the Monarchs scored five more runs.

With one out TMP got two men on base with back-to-back hit by pitches before four straight singles.

Liles drove in a run, Baalman plated two and then Brown added another for a 16-3 TMP lead.

Carson Liles finished four-for-four with five RBI’s. He, Baalman, Basgall and Schmeidler scored three times.

Liles also earned the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.

TMP improved to 12-6 and will host Sacred Heart on Monday.
