Hays man found guilty of breaking man’s jaw

After nearly three hours of deliberating, an Ellis County jury found a Hays man guilty of aggravated battery.

On Wednesday, a jury found Tristan John Flinn, Hays, guilty of felony aggravated battery following an incident in March 2019.

According to court documents, Flinn hit another man in the face twice, resulting in a broken jaw.

During the trial, the state presented a SnapChat video of Flinn striking the victim and an X-ray of the injury.

Flinn was initially charged with aggravated battery, recklessly causing great bodily harm, a level five person felony, but Ellis County Attorney Robert Anderson amended the complaint to charge Flinn with aggravated battery, knowingly cause great bodily harm, a level four person felony.

Flinn is expected to face between 47 and 52 months in prison. Sentencing will depend on his criminal history.

Sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 5 in Ellis County District Court.
