Marilyn Lou Jensen, 69, Victoria, died Sunday, July 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at her home.

She was born on July 29, 1954, in Atwood, Kansas, the daughter of Alois ”Lew” and Antoinette (Vrbas) Horinek. Marilyn moved to Hays in 1972 to attend Fort Hays State University, graduated from there in 1975, and continued living in Hays until moving to Victoria in 2020. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays and after moving to Victoria was a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis and the St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers.

In 1994, she began working as a paraeducator for USD 489 and finished her career working with the math department at Hays High School. Marilyn’s passion was helping students who struggled with math and assisting those with special needs. She also dedicated much of her time to teaching religion classes, volunteering with the Girl Scouts of America, and she loved spending time with her 11 grandchildren: Camden, Andy, Peyton, Julia, Madox, Eric, Brogan, Lillian, Olivia, Max, and Oscar.

Surviving family includes her two daughters, Tami Zimmerman and husband Matt and Sara Kuhl and husband Stephen, all of Hays, two sons, Todd Jensen and wife Kendra of Victoria and Brett Jensen and wife Sandra of Waxhaw, NC, one brother, Ronald Horinek and wife Janet of Phillipsburg, three sisters, Pat Skolout of Atwood, Donna Long of Scott City, and Janet Vaughan and husband Mike of Hawthorne, CA, and 11 grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law, Kenneth E. Long and Edgar A. Skolout, and a sister-in-law, Mary C. Horinek.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Basilica of St. Fidelis. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Thursday at the Basilica. A combined Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers rosary will be at 6:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 7:00, both on Wednesday at the funeral home. Family inurnment will be in Sts.
