Clara Elizabeth Dechant, age 89, died on August 5, 2020 at Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas. She was born on September 19, 1930 in Rush County, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Helen (Dreher) Kreutzer.
Clara was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 152 all of Ness City, a life member of the Garden City VFW Auxiliary Post 7972 and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a cook at St. Dominic's and the Ness City Leisure Years Center. On January 28, 1948 she married Marvin Dechant in Ness City, Kansas.
Survivors include husband, Marvin Dechant; four sons, Terry and Debbie Dechant of Olathe, Bill Dechant of Ransom, Don Dechant and Judy Smith of Cheney, Steve Dechant and Shelli of Wichita; four daughters, Pat Reimer of Ness City, Sue Baier and Ron of Willis, Texas, Sandy Borger and Loren of Meade, and Shelly Lumley and Jason Garrison of Ness City; one brother, Robert Kreutzer of Leoti. 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, daughter, Nancy Lumley, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be on Monday, August 10, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be on Sunday, August 9, 2020 starting at 6:00 p.m. Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9 from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart School.
