ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Fort Hays State (3-9-1, 1-6-1) fell to Missouri Western (8-1-3, 4-1-2) by a score of 1-0 at Spratt Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 19). The Griffons netted the game's only goal in the 22nd minute and their goalkeeper Morgan Byrd saved seven shots to keep the Tigers from scoring. FHSU is now 3-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the MIAA, while MWSU moved to 8-1-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the MIAA.
Kendall Knisley scored the lone goal of the match with a header off a crossing pass from Rachyl Benavides. The shot found the very upper part of the goal out of the reach of Hadley Ostrander, who went on to finish with four saves in the match. She had to save three shots after halftime to keep the Tigers within a goal.
Fort Hays State doubled its first half shot count in the second half, firing six attempts after halftime, but all were denied by Byrd. The Griffons led the shot count for the match 14-9. Sydney Cotter and Taylor Hill both put two shots on goal.
The Tigers will be on the road for the final time in the regular season next week with a match at Washburn on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Topeka. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ST.
