A red flag warning will remain in effect in Hays and most of western Kansas through 9 p.m. Thursday, with a fire weather watch in effect from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service in Dodge City said north-northwest winds will be sustained at 13 to 21 mph Thursday and Friday. Coupled with low humidity and persistent dry conditions, the chance for fast-spreading fired is elevated.
The high temperature Friday through Sunday is expected to be in the mid-50s to low-60s, with overnight lows below the freezing point Friday and Saturday.
A chance for precipitation could be around the corner for the parched region. There is a 20 percent chance of rain in the early morning hours of Monday, increasing to a 50 percent chance by Wednesday.
