⚾Larks route Denver; securing series victory

HAYS – The Hays Larks scored five runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 15-0 win over the Denver Cougars in seven innings Saturday at Larks Park.

The win gives the Larks the series sweep and moved them into a tie atop the Rocky Mountain Baseball League with the Liberal Bee Jays.

Will Carpenter got the scoring started first for the Larks with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Thomas Lyssy followed with an RBI double and then after a run scored on a passed ball Trent Baker tripled home a run making it 4-0 Hays.

They added one more on a wild pitch and led 5-0 through one inning.

In the bottom of the second, Wilbert Espinal got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly. Hays added two more on an error and led 8-0 at that point.

Lyssy singled home a run and Baker tripled in another run, his second triple of the game, for a 10-0 Hays lead.

Gage Gilchrist made it 11-0 hays in the bottom of the third with an RBI single and then in the bottom of the sixth Hays scored four more times on their way to the 15-0 run-rule victory.

Lyssy hit a two-run homerun, Kaleb Duncan singled in a run and Espinal added another on an RBI double.

Kaiden Ashton finished two-for-four with three runs scored and Baker and Lyssy each collected three hits. Lyssy drove in four runs.

Hays’ Kevin Goss earned the win. He allowed just one hit with four walks and five strikeouts in four innings pitch.

With two games left in the regular season Hays is 26-8 and 21-6 in the RMBL.

They close out a three-game series with Denver in a non-league contest on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Larks Park.
