Shawn Robert Boultinghouse was born January 23, 1958 to Robert and Helen
Boultinghouse. He passed away August 19, 2020 at the Decatur County
Hospital in Oberlin, KS at the age of 62.
Shawn grew up in Oberlin, KS and was raised by his mother and
adoptive father, John A. Karls. He was a 1976 Decatur Community High
School graduate and then he went on to attend the Northwest Kansas
Technical College in Goodland, KS. Shawn married Susan Schwab of
Norcatur and they had a son, Scott. They divorced and later Shawn
married Charlena Farmer on June 22, 2013 in Clinton, KS. They resided in
Lawrence, KS.
He was an avid gun/rifle collector using them for target
practice and self-defense. Shawn liked fixing things, whether in the
garden or the garage and he seemed to have every tool imaginable to
prove it! He enjoyed singing and listening to old style country music
and watching reality tv shows; including: Wicked Tuna, Swamp People,
Life Below Zero, Gold Rush, Ice Road Truckers, American Pickers, and Gas
Monkey. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and NFL football. Shawn liked
taking long scenic drives in the country with his wife, Charlena. He
loved visiting relatives and attending family reunions and weddings,
even with the physical challenges of having Muscular Dystrophy and
congestive heart failure. One thing that brought him great joy was when
his granddaughter, Katie, began calling him “Grandpa Wheels” due to him
being in a wheelchair.
Shawn was preceded in death by his biological father, Robert
Boultinghouse; adoptive father, John A. Karls; stepdaughter, Jessica
Roark and brothers-in-law, Ambrosio Mendiola and Ralph Nelson.
He is
survived by his wife, Charlena of Lawrence, KS; son, Scott (Anita)
