HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs tallied six extra-base hits and
took advantage of seven walks on their way to a 21-0 victory over Ell-Saline in
the 2-1A Hays TMP regional quarterfinal.
Ell-Saline, who beat Oberlin in the first game of the day to advance to the matchup with TMP, got their leadoff man on to start the game, but TMP starter Carson Liles worked around the single and retired the next six he faced for two scoreless innings on the mound.
The offense wasted no time getting going in the bottom of the first inning.
The Monarchs scored 13 runs in the first inning. They sent 19 hitter to the plate in the inning.
TMP’s Ty Schmeidler connected on his first home run of the season, a two-run shot. Grant Nehls added a triple and a two-run homerun in the inning.
The Monarchs also walked five times and were hit by a pitch twice in the inning. They also took advantage of two errors.
TMP led 13-0 after one inning.
It was more of the same in the second inning. TMP scored eight runs in the inning. They took advantage of two hit by pitches, two walks and two errors.
Ty Schmeidler allowed just one walk but struck out the side in the top of the third inning, securing the TMP victory.
The Monarchs will get Ellinwood in the first semifinal of the day on Wednesday, May 21st, in Hays. The winner will take on the winner of Sacred Heart and Ellis in the championship game.
Grant Nehls finished two-for-two with a triple and a home run, three RBI’s and three runs scored.
Ty Schmeidler also drove in three runs. Connor Breit finished two-for-three with two runs and two RBIs.
Jacob Seib added three RBIs and a two-for-two day.
