EMPORIA – Fort Hays State fell behind early and lost 42-14 to Emporia State Saturday afternoon at Jones Field/Welch Stadium. The Tigers are now 2-7 on the season while the Hornets improve to 7-2.
ESU scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and built a 21-0 lead with 4:42 to play in the first quarter.
The Tigers countered with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jack Dawson to tight end Cale Cormaney.
The Hornets scored on their next two possession and led 35-7 at halftime.
The Tiger defense got a stop on the Hornets first possession of the third quarter but a punt went off the back of a Tiger giving Emporia State the ball at the FHSU 26. They scored one play later to push the score to 42-7.
Fort Hays State’s Manny Ramsey caught a 13-yard pass from Dawson midway through
Manny Ramsey hauled in six passes for 66 yards and one touchdown, moving up to second in all-time receptions at FHSU (171) and third in career receiving touchdowns (22). Adrian Soto rushed for 67 yards.
Hornet quarterback Braden Gleason completed 30 of
FHSU plays their final home game next Saturday against Northeastern State at 1:00 p.m. The RiverHawks lost 21-17 at home to Washburn.
